Sustainability indexes and awards
SCA is included on several international sustainability indexes, which serve as a stamp of quality for sustainability activities. We have, for example, been awarded with EcoVadis' Sustainability Gold Medal. SCA also received the Carnegie Sustainability Award.
Index
EcoVadis
EcoVadis assesses sustainability practices in four areas: environment, labor and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement. Its evaluation encompasses more than 150,000 companies in 250 sectors in 185 countries.
SCA qualified for the Sustainability Gold Medal. Only 5 % of companies assessed in the industry by EcoVadis achieved this ranking. SCA has received EcoVadis scorecard since 2020.
UN Global Compact
SCA supports the UN Global Compact, the world’s largest voluntary responsible business initiative. We have been members since 2008.
The Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact in the areas of human rights, labor, the environment and anti-corruption. Every year, we report our work in accordance with the principles through a Communication on Progress (COP).
CDP
SCA has since 2022 reported, for example, risks and opportunities, emissions data, business strategy, targets and outcomes, and biodiversity to CDP. For example, risks and opportunities, business strategy and implementation are reported for forests.
Sustainalytics
Morningstar Sustainalytics analyzes data on environment, social responsibility and corporate governance for more than 20,000 companies in more than 170 countries.
MSCI
MSCI measures a company’s resilience to environmental risks, social risks and governance risks.
Winner of the Carnegie Sustainability Award
At the Carnegie Sustainability Award 2022, SCA was rewarded for its sustainability initiatives and received an award in the Large Cap category. The commendation highlights that SCA’s forest is 100% certified through FSCTM (FSC C004466) and PEFC (PEFC/05-23-131), that we are already clearly climate-positive, and that we have clear targets for our climate work moving forward. Examples of future targets include increased climate benefit and the targets for zero waste, a fossil-free value chain and increased electricity generation from wind power.
Top ranking among sustainable companies
SCA came in second place when Dagens Industri and Lund University ranked the stock exchange’s 130 largest companies from a sustainability perspective in 2023. The result was presented in ‘Sustainable companies 2023’ (Sw. Hållbara bolag 2023).
The ranking has been held for the past six years. As in previous years, the aim was to evaluate the companies’ ambitions, performance and priorities in sustainability work.
Focus in 2023 was on the following five categories:
- Sustainability work (Background)
- CSRD and EU Taxonomy
- Biodiversity
- Climate
- In-depth risk
In the total ranking, SCA came joint second together with Midsona.
