SCA R&D Centre

The SCA R&D Centre employs around 40 specialists with expertise in fields such as chemical engineering, applied physics, and process knowledge. Our laboratories are well-equipped with pilot machines and high-tech instruments for both chemical and mechanical testing. Both our expertise and equipment are continuously developed to meet the evolving needs of the business areas.

In major investments, one of us from the SCA R&D Centre is often involved from the very beginning to provide expert knowledge during the procurement process. We contribute expertise throughout the entire value chain, right up to the end customers in the production process. For example, we can visit customers' production facilities to assist with process settings to ensure that our products perform optimally.

Our researchers and specialists collaborate with external partners worldwide and participate in research and development projects relevant to our operations. Mid Sweden University, located right next door to us, is one of many partners.

Life cycle analyses and product safety

SCA R&D Centre is also responsible for certain group-wide functions, such as conducting life cycle analyses and working with product safety and patents.

Life cycle analyses (LCA) is a method used to map the environmental and climate impact of a product throughout its "lifetime" – from raw material extraction to production, use, and ultimately waste management or recycling. Life cycle analyses are increasingly requested by our customers, both to help them make sustainable choices and to report climate impact to various authorities and their own customers. Additionally, the analyses help us identify opportunities for improvement to further reduce our environmental and climate impact.

Product safety ensures that our products are safe for users and the environment and meet customer and regulatory requirements. SCA R&D Centre is responsible for this work, monitoring changes in legislation and regularly analyzing the Group's products.

Test panel

There are many ways to assess the printability of liner. In addition to advanced measuring instruments, we have a test panel that analyzes and provides feedback. The human sense is highly perceptive, and the panel offers valuable insights that complement the technical tests.

Innovation race

We have a unique process for quickly finding innovative solutions, improving products and services, and developing new ones. We call it the innovation race. The work takes place in our specially designed meeting rooms, tailored for creative processes.
