A heart made out of kraftliner.

Our investments

We continuously transform and develop our product portfolio toward growing product areas. For example, we gradually reduced our publication paper operations and ultimately discontinued these, while the production of pulp and kraftliner increased. To ensure a high degree of competitiveness, we continuously invest in our industrial assets that are located close to our forest holdings.

Some of our latest strategic capital expenditures

Kraftliner expansion

At the end of 2022, a new paper machine was commissioned at the Obbola paper mill. It is the largest of its kind in the world and Obbola’s production capacity has increased significantly. The paper machine is now being ramped up to full capacity.

CTMP expansion

A new chemical thermomechanical pulp (CTMP) mill began operating in Ortviken at the end of 2022. The next step is to realize the full potential of the new mill.

Growth in solid-wood products

In 2023, we completed an investment project at the Bollsta sawmill, which is now highly efficient in a global context.

Biofuels

At the end of 2023, the start-up began of SCA’s joint venture biorefinery in Gothenburg. The refinery will manufacture biofuel for the aviation sector and other uses. One of the raw materials is tall oil, a product from our pulp mills.

Own wind power

Previously, we only leased out land with favorable wind conditions but we became an active owner of wind energy production in 2023. This means our strategy now includes lease agreements, operation of own wind farms and project development for own operation or divestment.
