We are a world leader in energy and resource efficiency. In our state-of-the-art facilities, we use highly efficient processes to produce top-quality pulp from raw materials sourced from sustainably managed, growing forests—while also generating significant amounts of green energy.
As the largest private forest owner in Europe, we´re one of the biggest contributors to substituting fossil materials with sustainable, forest based and fossil free raw materials. The net-growth in SCAs forests is a result of responsible and sustainable forestry, in combination with consistent re-planting of harvested areas. Every part of a harvested tree is carefully utilized and transferred into sustainable products like timber, pulp, fuels and green energy. And we exclusively source raw materials from sustainability-certified forests.
Our green product line, SCA Cirrus, consists of fossil-free by-products from NBSK production, including tall oil, turpentine, district heating, green electricity, and sodium bisulfite. Each year, we produce approximately 30,000 tons of tall oil—a renewable raw material for biodiesel—along with 1,200 tons of turpentine, used in products such as perfumes and food flavoring. We also produce sodium bisulfite, a green chemical used in CTMP production. In addition, excess heat from our two mills supplies around 300 GWh of district heating to 20,000 households.
In 2023, SCA’s climate benefit amounted to 12.8 million tons of CO₂ more than a fourth of Sweden’s total emissions. The large forest holdings of SCA are also a vital contribution to regional employment, welfare and recreation in vast areas of northern Sweden.
