Our sustainability policy establishes the framework for integrating sustainability throughout our entire operations. The policy defines our ambitions and ensures that sustainability permeates everything we do—from product development and business models to investments and supply chains.
Sustainability is an important part of SCA's business strategy and a prerequisite for long-term profitability. We combine economic growth with responsibility and take a holistic approach to the areas where we have the greatest impact—climate transition, resource efficiency, biodiversity, and social sustainability. A central element of our climate-related work is substitution—replacing fossil materials and energy sources with renewable alternatives derived from our forests.
Key areas in the updated policy include:
- Sustainability in the business model – Our products and services will be developed with consideration for people, environment, and society. We ensure our production is efficient, safe, and resource-effective. By providing bio-based materials and products, we contribute to reducing society’s dependence on fossil resources.
- Responsible forestry – We manage our forests with long-term perspective and responsibility. Through active and responsible forestry practices, we enhance growth and carbon sequestration while preserving biodiversity and considering the forest’s other values. Our goal is for our forests to be at least as rich in biodiversity, nature experiences, and raw materials in the future as they are today, with 100 percent of our wood raw material coming from responsibly managed forests.
- Responsible business practices – Our business is built on honesty, integrity, and transparency. Our suppliers and business partners are expected to meet the same high standards we set for ourselves and share our values.
- Continuous improvements – Through clear objectives, regular monitoring, and close dialogue with stakeholders, we continuously develop our sustainability efforts.
- SCA strives to minimize negative impacts on people and the environment while enhancing our positive contributions. We actively work to reduce fossil emissions by replacing plastics, concrete, and other fossil-based materials with wood-based alternatives and by phasing out fossil fuels in our own operations.
