Our latest CTMP offer is truly creating new opportunities, not least when it comes to providing food-grade approved pulp.
“We’ve created more possibilities and bespoke solutions than ever before. For the past 10 years, we have had spruce grades that are food approved and meet all the necessary requirements, but we can also include birch, with all the opportunities that this versatile raw material provides”, says Sara Qvist. Product Manager SCA More. She continues, “our birch products offer outstanding brightness, low yellowing and improved formation and it is now becoming the preferred choice of demanding board customers. With our new extended washing steps, which reduces odour and taste issues further we offer SCA More Birch grades for food applications meeting the requirements that apply to different segments and markets”.
“We see outstanding possibilities for growth in the food segment. From cultivating fresh spices in substrate from our pulp to all kinds of food manufacturing, and packaging of food. The segment is growing at a “cracking” pace - metaphorically speaking, and with the new opportunities, which permit tailored solutions for our customers, we can also replace fossil plastics with new applications in the food industry”, says Jörgen Bergström, Head of Business Development SCA Pulp. However, Jörgen adds: “we have a lot of innovations and improved products in the works, moulded fibre-based trays are just one area. But above all, we want to develop new solutions together with our customers. Although we may not yet have the answers to all of our customers' questions, we really want more tricky challenges to solve together. Then we can help our customers develop their business, and at the same time reduce the use of fossil plastics, for example”.
Historically the largest area of use has been to boost the stiffness of packaging board, with liquid packaging as one example, where CTMP pulp can be used in the intermediate layer, providing increased bulk and more stable packaging. Today SCA can offer a lot More.
“Our strong environmental performance, coupled with a new efficient CTMP process, uses wood raw material optimally and gets twice as high a yield as chemical pulp alternatives. In addition, we can offer the market's broadest product portfolio, ultimately resulting in great possibilities for our customers. Particularly in the food segment”, concludes Sara.
