Large areas perfect for wind turbine components

The parts that go to make up a wind turbine are enormous, both in size and weight, creating additional logistical demands. Beginning in December, SCA Logistics will be handling 15 wind turbines at the Sundsvall terminal.
Increasing numbers of wind turbines are being erected in northern Sweden as part of the green transition. The components are built all over the world and then transported by ship to one of Sweden’s northern ports for onward shipment to the assembly site. While SCA Logistics has handled wind power projects previously, larger projects are on the way.
“This time, the wind power company itself will be responsible for shipping to our docks in Sundsvall, but then we will deal with handling and storage,” explains Jonas Nilsson, Sales Manager at SCA Logistics.
A lot of space required
Deliveries will continue for several months and the large storage areas in the new container port will come in handy.
“The rotor blades are around 85 metres in length and some of the other components are also pretty hefty, so we need a lot of space. This type of project also places specific demands on safety, so there is a great deal of focus on that,” says Jonas.
“There are many wind power projects planned in our region and we will be delighted to assist with the logistics around many of them. Our latest investments have left us extremely well-equipped for this type of assignment.”
