An increasingly large share of value-added products are manufactured at the mill. Munksund paper mill is a well-invested mill of which we are proud. In 2013, major investments were made in increased kraftliner capacity and improved quality properties of our products.
Production and capacity
Our 300 employees produces about 400 000 tonnes of paper every year.
Out of spruce, pine and birch from sustainably managed forests in Northern Sweden, we produce kraft pulp, the most important raw material for our products. The slow growth of the forests results in exceptionally long, strong and high-quality fiber, which lends our products unique qualities.
Sustainable production
Access to long and strong Nordic fresh fiber enables products of high quality and environmental performance. The products' carbon footprint has declined 30% over a ten-year period. This reduction was achieved through investments that focused on improved product quality and reduced environmental impact and by replacing fossil fuels with biofuels. One example is the new lime kiln, fired with pellets instead of oil, which was installed in 2014.
We have certified management systems for occupational health and safety, the external environment, energy and quality, and are also FSC® and PEFC certified. We use biofuel instead of oil and about half of the electricity we use, we generate ourselves.
