SCA’s innovation process is deeply embedded in the Group’s strategy and business model. Innovation activities are based on market trends, customer and consumer insight, new technology and new business models. Sustainability aspects and product safety are incorporated throughout the process.
SCA R&D Centre
SCA R&D Centre support ongoing operations, product renewal and drive innovations to create future business opportunities. The organization includes specialist competence that ensures excellence in key areas.
Forest Business Accelerator
SCA is cooperating with start-ups through the Forest Business Accelerator. The Accelerator, which merges forest development with digitalization and entrepreneurship, is a joint venture between SCA, IBM, RISE Processum and the Bizmaker business incubator.

Centipede
The concept machine Centipede has been developed by SCA, seven other Swedish forestry companies and the forest machinery manufacturer Komatsu. The goal is to have a machine that combines lower soil compaction, increased productivity, and better operator environment.
Arcwise®
Arcwise® is a unique packaging technology that for the first time entails curved shaped corrugated board packaging. The technology provides premiumization of packaging and attraction in point of sale. At the same time, Arcwise® has a significant lightweighting potential, which can substantially reduce carbon footprint.
SCA's and Scania's electric timber truck
SCA and Scania have together developed the first electric timber truck with a technical capability of up to 80 tonnes total weight. The vehicle is a sustainable transport solution and another step towards fossil-free society.
Lignosize
SCA, Sekab, RISE and RISE Processum have in the Lignosize project worked together with the idea of replacing today's fossil-based hydrophobing agents in the production of paper.
Biorefinery Östrand AB

Real operation for remote-controlled soil scarification machine from SCA
A soil scarification machine has now been remotely controlled in real operation. On October 1st, Skogforsk tested a modified machine loaned by SCA. The machine was operated on a clear-cut area by a driver sitting in a cabin 300 metres from the maschine.
SCA uses AI for digital forestry planning
SCA has launched a new tool with AI functionality for digital forestry planning. In 2023, small-scale tests were conducted to scale up to more extensive tests in 2024. “It’s incredibly exciting. It involves both new technology and new working methods that give us several advantages,” says Magnus Bergman, who leads SCA Forest’s technology and digitization staff.
Five companies in the start-up program Forest Business Accelerator
This week was the start-up meeting for the eighth round of the Forest Business Accelerator. As before, the program has caused several start-ups with forest innovations to apply to Västernorrland.
